An Awesome Andre Galvao Seminar!

Andre Galvao Seminar held at Phoenix BJJ & MMA Academy/Atos West Phoenix

This past weekend professor Andre Galvao came out to Goodyear, Arizona to teach a seminar at Phoenix BJJ & MMA Academy/Atos West Phoenix!  BJJ practitioners from all over Arizona, New Mexico, and even as far as Argentina came to our gym to learn from professor Galvao.  This was by far the best seminar we have hosted and we will bring out professor Galvao again very soon!  Thank you to everyone that supported this seminar.  We look forward to continuing to bring out top athletes from the Atos BJJ family to teach more great seminars as well as run some camps for us!

CTA Places 2nd Overall at AZ Kids BJJ Cup!!!

CTA – Phoenix BJJ & MMA Academy Wins 2nd Place at the 7th AZ BJJ Kids Cup!

Phoenix BJJ & MMA Academy sent 9 kids from our Goodyear, AZ facility to combine with the other AZ CTA teams to compete at the 7th Arizona Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Kids Cup this past weekend.  Together Caio Terra Association scored enough points to take home the 2nd place overall kids trophy and just missed getting the first place trophy! The results for the competitors sent from our academy are below:

Strength Training For Grappling

People who compete in wrestling, bjj, or mma usually put there bodies through the grinder in terms of training. It is hard to recover from strength training workouts if you are grappling 4x-5x per week because grappling is like performing strength work. If you have to much volume or your intensity is to high it can be very difficult do recover and lead to joint pain or injuries. One program I really like for grapplers is Wendler’s 5/3/1. This program is low enough volume that you can recover, but produces good results. I am going to lay out the the basics of the program below. There are many sports to consider getting your child involved in, but have you thought about Brazilian jiu jitsu? Obviously, jiu jitsu is a great form of physical exercise, and it is important to get your child interested in staying fit from an early age. Jiu jitsu will keep your child moving through warm-ups, practicing moves and sparring. More than just exercise, jiu jitsu can help your child gain more control and balance. The skills learned in jiu jitsu can be carried over into other sports your child may play, and can help them achieve overall health and fitness.
